DENTAL HYGIENIST JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Promote dental health by completing dental prophylaxis, oral cancer screenings, radiographic studies, and charting conditions of decay and disease in compliance with the Dental Practice Act
• Prepare patients for treatment by welcoming, seating, and draping them
• Provide information by answering patient and staff questions
• Maintain instrumentation by sharpening, sterilizing, and selecting tools
• Select materials and equipment by evaluating patients' oral health
• Complete dental prophylaxis by cleaning deposits and stains from teeth and beneath gum margins
• Detect disease through screenings, examinations, and radiographic studies
• Help prevent decay by applying fluorides and other cavity-preventing agents

DENTAL HYGIENIST JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Active dental hygiene license in MD
• Knowledge of dental procedures and terminology
• Understanding of HIPAA regulations and ability to maintain patient confidentiality
• Excellent communication skills to educate patients on oral health care practices
